One of Herrin’s most prized teams, the Herrin High School Wrestling Team, has achieved an outstanding amount of success in its 2025-2026 season. This year, they participated in regionals, where three members succeeded in advancing to sectionals in Vandalia, Illinois. Those three outstanding wrestlers were Domanick Khoshaba, Cameron Urbaniak, and Braden Berndt, who have all put forth their utmost devotion and dedication to their sport.
Cameron Urbaniak, who honorably took an elbow to the eye for a win, referred to his experience with the team as a subject of his own personal growth, exclaiming, “My team has influenced me very well by pushing me to be my best, or, actually, the person who did it the most was my practice partner, Brennan Jeralds. I have gotten close with many upperclassmen, which has helped me grow up.”
Urbaniak also showcases his excitement in his accomplishments, claiming, “I’m really excited about advancing to sectionals. It feels like all the hard work is paying off, and I’m motivated to keep pushing myself. I set a goal to win 30 matches, and I won 35, and another one of my goals was to make it to state, which is yet to be determined.”
Additionally, Domanick Khoshaba expressed his gratitude for his teammates and the impact they’ve made on his go-getter mentality, stating, “It feels amazing advancing, especially because of how I started my freshman year. I didn’t even wrestle regionals, and last year I went 0-2, and getting 2nd place now just tells me how much hard work and dedication I’ve put in. My main goal was to make sectionals and to improve. I accomplished both, and I’m really proud of myself.”
Braden Berndt, our third advancer, conveys his sentiments as well, elaborating that, “I feel proud of myself for making it to sectionals and couldn’t thank my teammates and coaches enough. My teammates are like my best friends, and we are a family, and they helped me get to where I am today.”
Congratulations to our amazing wrestling team and best of luck to our sedulous advancers. They have all dedicated their time and effort to contributing to this immaculate sport.
