As fall begins, the Herrin-Carterville soccer team’s season comes to a close. This season has been a rewarding one for the athletes.

The Herrin-Carterville team has been a co-op team since 2016. The team is coached by Chip Lennox and Matt Strothman. The Soccer team fought long and hard and ended this season with a score of six wins and ten losses. These athletes have been working extremely hard throughout the season, and they should be exceptionally proud.

Even though they are a co-op team, they work extremely well together and put in hard work and effort into their team. A lot of teamwork is seen throughout each game. So who might have inspired some of these students? Micheal Cagle (12) said, “My brothers definitely inspired me.” Like other soccer stars, he said “Soccer basically runs in my whole family.” He shows how much he cherishes his brothers and the sport.

Even though some of the athletes did not do as well as they thought they would, they still worked immensely hard and should be very proud of each other and the team. Their latest loss against Carbondale was very difficult but

The season-ending brings up a lot of memories for our seniors. When asked what Nahthan Abba’s (12) favorite memory of playing soccer was from his sophomore year, “we had a really good team, and we beat Waterloo in the regional semi-final. That year it was a lot of fun.”

This season definitely stirred up a lot of emotion through the team, with Nathan Abba, Micheal Cagle and Keegan Weber all being seniors. All three have been on the team since freshman year, and this was definitely a year to remember. These athletes have worked extremely hard and hopefully, all their hard work will show next season.
