To kick off the second week of Genre of the Month, with September focusing on Thriller books, a new nail-biting novel has been selected.

For Week 2 of September, this week’s book is One of Us is Lying, by Karen M. McManus, was published on May 29th, 2017, and the sequel was published just a few years later, on January 7th, 2020.

One of Us is Lying follows Bronwyn, Addy, Nate, and Cooper, four high school students who were bound together as suspects when a fellow classmate is murdered in the same room. Each kid seems like an obvious suspect, but everyone has secrets. Readers are constantly wondering who the true murderer is and turning on each of the characters they grow fond of the second new evidence arises. Each chapter leaves readers wondering what really happened, who they can trust, and how it’s going to end for each character.

Just over four years since the release of the first novel, the streaming service Peacock, released a 2-season adaptation series of the first and second novels. While many details are inconsistent, and many hardcore fans aren’t fond of the adaptation, to those who have not read the book but do enjoy a murder mystery thriller, the One of Us is Lying Peacock series is still one to be enjoyed.

One of Us is Lying is the perfect, multi-perspective novel for anyone eager to dive into their next murder mystery hyper-fixation. In the past year, One of Us is Lying has already been checked out a total of 7 times. In comparison to all other books available in Herrin High School Library, this number is incredible.
