Rejoice, Tiger Nation, football season is back! The Tigers officially kicked off their season last Friday with the Powerade Game. The Varsity team held a scrimmage followed by freshmen and sophomores. The excitement for the upcoming season could be felt throughout the complex as fans and players alike saw a preview of the 2019 Football Team.

One of the players to shine was senior, Jake Baumgarte. Baumgarte, the team’s kicker, attempted and made a 55-yard field goal, just 9-yards shy of the NFL record. ”I was pretty pumped up,” Baumgarte said when asked about his longest of three kicks on the night. “I hope I get the opportunity to make another one.”

When asked what game they were most looking forward to, the majority of players responded with the Week Two matchup with long-time rival, Carterville, but Senior lineman, Jakob Milani, responded with Murphysboro. “Last year’s game was close. We’ll be ready for another close game.”
