Each year at HHS, before students begin their Thanksgiving break, the school hosts an all-school celebration where students follow a shortened schedule to enjoy the day’s fun activities. This year, students got to enjoy various activities, such as tournaments, games, and movies.
At the celebration, the school held a volleyball tournament where students joined forces with peers and teachers from all grades. Teams needed at least two girls or two boys to participate to help encourage teamwork and friendly competition. After a series of exciting matches, only one team claimed the title: Team Juniors, who showcased their skill and teamwork throughout. The team consisted of Jose Mendez (12), Jacobie Stubbs (12), Emery Skaggs (11), Scotty Reynolds (12), Shaniya Johnson (11), and Josie Brandon 11) won the tournament.
In addition to the volleyball tournament, there was a rock, paper, scissors competition that began at the start of the afternoon. Students began with one set of beads, and as they won matches, they took the beads of the losing party. In the final round, Aubrey Huff (11), Baylee Beasley (10), Rasheed Jones (11), and Harley Summers (12) faced off against each other. Ultimately, the last two remaining competitors were Bailey Beasley and Aubrey Huff. They went head-to-head in a decisive match, and Aubrey emerged victorious, earning the title of rock, paper, scissors champion.
HOSA organized a fundraiser where teachers were pied in the face. Mrs. Loucks, Mr. Baskin, and “Froggy” were the most voted for teachers to be pied. The fundraiser aimed to support the HOSA account, which typically has limited funds each year. The money raised will cover essential expenses such as contests and trips, providing valuable opportunities for students to enhance their skills and experiences in health-related fields. This support is crucial for the ongoing success of HOSA members. Kari Eggemeyer (10) stated that HOSA praised the idea, noting that it effectively engaged both students and faculty in a fun way for a good cause.
Overall, it was a fantastic celebration of teamwork and school spirit that brought together students, teachers, and families in an uplifting atmosphere. The event began with an energetic parade showcasing each class’s unique talents, followed by engaging performances that highlighted our school’s diversity and creativity.
