On Feb. 7, the Lady Tigers Bowling Team showed great dominance after clinching their third consecutive regional championship title. Even though the regional took place in Herrin’s own bowling alley, the regional was hosted by Marion. The Tigers and Wildcats, usually rivals, share Herrin Bowl as their home lanes. The Lady Tigers won the regional with nearly 200 more pins than the second place team, Salem. Herrin bowled a total of 5663 pins over six games.
The girls bowling teams that advanced to state through the Marion regional were Harrisburg, Herrin, Salem and Waterloo. Sidnee Nelson (11), also took home the title as individual regional champion after bowling 1175 pins.
This qualified Nelson for her own three-peat as this is the third consecutive year in a row, she has won the regional. Sidnee said, “I am so proud of myself and my team for being able to hold the regional title three years in a row. I am happy that I have one more year to have another chance to accomplish this again.”
The Lady Tigers bowling team then headed to sectionals in Mt. Vernon on Feb. 15. The team itself finished up in tenth place, which ended the team’s season. But Nelson individually placed second overall, which qualified her for state. IHSA Bowling state finals take place in Rockford Feb. 21-22. The Lady Tigers are composed of members, Sidnee Nelson (11), Paisley Vorhes (12), Delaney Restivo (12), Lillian Griffith (9), Meadow Learner (11), Izzy Mifflin (9) and Avery Fish (10).
