The Big Cheer

“If you believe in yourself and have dedication and pride – and never quit, you’ll be a winner. The price of victory is high but so are the rewards.” -Bear Bryant

Our HHS cheerleaders have performed many times at our home basketball and football games. All of their hard work had them heading to sectionals. Sectionals were held at O’Fallon High School on January 28th, 2023. Although the cheerleaders were very nervous, they were also excited to perform, as they had been working hard all year to prepare for IHSA sectionals. To our HHS cheerleaders, the sectionals are very important.

The routine, which was choreographed by Mindy Harrison, contained elevator stunts, heel stretches and pyramid stunts. The team had been looking forward to this opportunity all year in order to qualify for state. They have been working hard and practicing to achieve this challenging feat. While some of the team was very nervous, other cheerleaders were quite excited. When asked about how she felt about going to sectionals, Madalyn Griffin (11) said “I’m really nervous, but I’m so happy we get the chance to compete against some other really good teams.” The expectations were quite high going into the competition. Feeling sentimental about last year’s sectionals, Cadence Tessone (12) stated, “Our team is very excited for sectionals this year. It’s something we look forward to every season. I think we have a very competitive cheer team this year, and we’re ready to compete this Saturday. We’ve put countless hours of practice into this routine over the past couple of months and we can’t wait to show everyone.”

Full of dedication and commitment to their routine, they headed off to sectionals. While waiting all year for sectionals, they ended with the score of 12/18. They had a huge improvement compared to last year, and it was a successful day for our Tiger Cheerleaders.
