El Jalisco opened its doors in 2004 in Herrin, Illinois, marking the beginning of a beloved chain of Mexican restaurants. As the first location, it quickly became a favorite destination for locals and visitors alike, renowned for its exceptional hospitality and delicious food. Over the years, El Jalisco has expanded, with multiple locations now serving up authentic Mexican flavors to over communities.
Alfonso Mora is the proud owner of the restaurant in Herrin, as well as several others across Southern Illinois. His journey began with a passion for sharing his cultural heritage through the culinary arts. He firmly believes that food goes beyond mere sustenance; it serves as a powerful means of connection between individuals. By sharing his recipes and welcoming guests into his restaurants, Alfonso creates an atmosphere that encourages bonding.
Driven by his passion, Alfonso is also deeply committed to supporting his family. He views the restaurant not just as a business but as an essential part of his family’s future. Through hard work and dedication.
Alfonso aims to build a successful enterprise that provides job opportunities within the community, allowing others to thrive as well. This dual purpose of sharing culture and fostering community has made El Jalisco more than just a dining option; it’s a place where people can celebrate life’s moments, big and small.
People in the community are drawn not only by its extensive menu but also by the warm and inviting atmosphere it offers. Guests have the opportunity to indulge in a wide range of traditional dishes, including tacos, enchiladas, and burritos. Regardless of the dish, each one is carefully crafted with attention to detail.
Skyla Triplett (12) says her favorite dish is a burrito esteca with extra cheese dip on top. It’s a burrito with steak or chicken inside with the classic cheese dip. Beyond the delicious food, people appreciate the welcoming ambiance and attentive service, which create an enjoyable dining experience for everyone. A few students have even said that they have created a good bond with some of the waiters and enjoy their time there.
Whether it’s a family gathering, a meal with friends, or a casual outing for two, El Jalisco has become a cherished space where people can come together to share good food and great conversation.
With its blend of flavorful cuisine and heartfelt service, El Jalisco continues to cultivate a sense of belonging among others. Whether you’re a longtime customer excited for your next meal or a first-time visitor eager to explore Mexican cuisine.
