When it comes to places to grab a sweet treat, one name stands out in our community: Bonali’s Gelato. Owned and operated by Jim and Carol Bonali, this new local business has quickly become a favorite for students, families, and community members alike.
Jim and Carol started making gelato in their kitchen twelve years ago and sold it to their friends and family. It stayed like this for years, until just recently, when the couple decided to buy and open up an actual shop to sell gelato. Their new shop is located at 110 W Cherry St.
Their mission from day one has been to bring Italian traditions back to Herrin. Since opening, it has grown into a staple in town, offering homemade, fresh gelato that is made in-house with love. What makes Bonali’s different is the way they treat anyone who walks through their door like family, no matter what.
Jim shared that the best part about being a part of the business is “seeing the kids’ smiles and the way they react to a simple treat.” As Bonalis Gelato continues to grow, it hopes to stay connected with the local community and bring back cherished Italian traditions.
For anyone wanting to try Bonali’s, their new shop is located at 110 W Cherry Street in Herrin. They are open from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday through Saturday.
