Hardworking, positive, motivating, not afraid of asking for help… These are a few of the characteristics that junior Braden Davis, this year’s student of the year, believes the title of student of the year entails. Braden was chosen by his teachers as the 2024-2025 student of the year.
Braden originally won student of the month back in the month of September for the trait of integrity. Braden defines integrity as “the ability to admit the truth, even when it’s tough, and show that you’re honest and trustworthy.” Braden has continued to show this trait throughout his entire junior year in his classes and extracurricular activities. In the classroom, his teachers describe him as someone whom students can rely on for help. In his clubs, he can always be asked to help. “Braden is an excellent student. He works hard to understand complex topics, asks insightful questions, and is always willing to help his classmates,” said Mr.Harlow, Braden’s calculus teacher and the Math Team sponsor.
Not only is he a member of many clubs, but he also founded a new club during his freshman year, Tigers for Life. His club participates in many fundraisers for local pregnancy centers, such as Clarity Women’s Care and Cradle of Hope, throughout the year. He is also an active officer of the Rotary club, which seeks to serve throughout the local community. He is also an active member of Student Government, FBLA, P7, and FCA.
Mr. Roberts, FCA sponsor, spoke on Braden winning Student of the Year. “Braden is what it means to be a Herrin Tiger…. He is a great leader in FCA and all the clubs he is in. Braden is just a top notch person with a great heart!”
Braden is a high honors student, state level athlete, as well as in the top four of the junior class.
Students as polite and dedicated as Braden are few and far between. Mr. Johnson noticed that as a freshman, “He came in as a very responsible freshman, not like the average freshman.”
Braden has one year left at Herrin High School and will continue to stay involved with his clubs, dedicated to track and cross country, and excel in all academics. After finishing high school he plans to attend the University of Mississippi to major in journalism, and after he plans to attend law school.
