Momentum continues to build for a prestigious HHS academic competition team.
On April 25-26, the HHS Math Team traveled to Illinois State University (ISU) in Bloomington to compete in the ICTM State Math Contest. Alongside over 4,000 of the top high school students across the entire state, HHS students competed in numerous events, each with rigorous preparation and specific guidelines. In Division 2A, HHS placed 12th in the entire state and 3rd among public schools.
The team events saw major success. The Algebra 1 team of Nathan Jones (9), Kari Eggemeyer (9), Miles Ellet (9), Garrett Grant, Reagan Parks (9), and Rylee LaBotte (9) placed 7th. Placing 3rd was the Geometry Team of Asher Barlage, Logan Groves, Michael Bergman, Josie Brandon, Nolen Frost, and Sylvia Johnson. The Algebra II team, consisting of Tyler Dodson, Jack Parrish, Braden Davis, Nolan Gentile, Imogen Coop, and Sarah Johnson, placed 12th.
The Freshman-Sophomore 8-person team of Logan Groves, Michael Bergman, Asher Barlage, Nolen Frost, Nathan Jones, Miles Ellett, Kari Eggemeyer, and Garrett Grant placed 7th. In the Freshman-Sophomore 2-person event, Logan Groves and Sylvia Johnson placed 13th. The Junior-Senior 2-person event with Vince Champion and Tyler Dodson placed 7th.
Several individuals had standout scores for HHS. Nathan Jones placed 13th in Algebra 1. In Geometry, Asher Barlage and Logan Groves placed 11th and 12th, respectively. Tyler Dodson placed 18th in Algebra II.
Additionally, the HHS math team shirt won first place for the second year in a row. Designed by Mrs. Howerton, the shirt was meant to resemble the trending game Wordle, but was instead cleverly renamed Math Teamle.
As the team concludes its season, they are already looking forward to dominating the competition next year.
