On Saturday, April 26th, Herrin High School held its annual prom dance, which was a great success, earning well over $8,000 for the Junior class. This year’s theme was Starry Night, which was made by a group of students headed by Junior Maddie Martin.

Starting in January, leading all the way up to April, members of the Prom Committee worked hard to make sure the Prom would be as perfect as possible. They held meetings to discuss the theme, the gifts, the look of the invitations, and more. The Committee also worked very late the night before Prom to make sure everything was set up beautifully.

When asked her feelings on the Prom committee going with her theme, Maddie Martin had this to say, “I was surprised and excited, especially since they also went with the homecoming theme we came up with that year. I had the idea since last year, and I thought that the execution of the theme was very impressive.”

The dance started at 7:30 and was met with a very large crowd of people excited to dance and have a great time with their friends. When the time for the crowning arrived, everyone was excited and anxious to see who would be crowned this year’s prom king and queen. To mass applause and everybody’s excitement, Juniors Sam Jolliff and Ava Goetting were crowned as the king and queen.

The Prom king, Sam Jolliff, described his excitement about winning, “ I am very happy that my classmates chose me as the Prom king, and it means so much to me considering that I moved to Herrin right before freshman year” he also said that “This is something I will remember forever.” The Prom queen, Ava Goetting, stated her feelings about winning, “I appreciate all of the support everyone has given me, you are all so kind and hospitable, and I couldn’t be more happy to be granted the title!

The dance ended with Promenade at 11:30, followed by After Prom at SI Bowl starting at 12:30. The night ended at 2, leaving everyone in attendance tired. With this Prom’s conclusion, everybody awaits to see how the Class of 2027 follows up this year’s Junior Prom.
