As the story progresses, a rather unhappy and lonely Rainbow Fish is challenged to share his scales with all of the other fish in the sea. He was hesitant, but was tired of being unhappy and lonely, despite being so beautiful with those shining scales. The Rainbow Fish hesitantly decides to heed the advice and gives away “his most prized possessions.”
Imagine that…when the Rainbow Fish did what was suggested, he discovered sharing himself with others truly did bring happiness and fulfillment….and, most importantly, it made the world a better, happier place.
It turned out, those “things” that the Rainbow Fish was holding on to actually shared wonderful qualities and values with everyone around him, and boy, what a beautiful place the waters around him became.
Character, morals, how we treat others, how we share our light and our love with others, how we make the world a better place, how we lead with kindness, etc.…now those are the “shining scales” that we all possess and can share and spread in this world.
As I know that many of us are filled with grief, sadness, disbelief, and lack of understanding as to why our best buddy Wyatt had to leave us so prematurely, I want to assure you that he will never, truly, be gone. You see, Wyatt always has been the Rainbow Fish at the end of the book. He didn’t dare keep his shining scales all for himself. He shared them freely and constantly! He was a true testament as to what ALL should strive to be. He loved deeply. Always told you how he felt, so there were never any words unsaid. Asked how you were doing every day. Showed concern and support when you seemed upset or your day didn’t go as planned. He shared laughter, lots of laughter. From the jump scares that you knew were coming but rarely could find out which doorway or corner he was waiting in to the endless movie quotes that always perfectly fit with whatever was going on at the moment, Laughter surrounded him and spread beyond him. Never wanting to bring anyone down, always saying he was fine, even when we knew he wasn’t. He also gave the biggest and best hugs known to man. To sum it up, Wyatt is synonymous with all that is the epitome of the meaning of LOVE. I can’t even begin to describe the way he loved my youngest, Gigi. He called her his little sister daily and never let a moment go by where he didn’t share his love and admiration for their bond. They shared daily hugs and laughs. I know she will feel those hugs on even the darkest of days, knowing he is always with her.
In addition to sharing his light with Gigi, Wyatt shared all of these “shining scales” with all of us who were blessed to know him, each day. And now, those scales belong to each and every life he has touched. And we all carry them around with us. Now, it’s our job to continue to share more and more shining scales to continue doing what Wyatt did, making the world a better place just because he was in it!!
The “waters” we are currently in feel more like a hurricane or tsunami than anything else as we process the worldly loss of Wyatt’s physical self, but even in the depths of the sea, the darkest of waters, always look for that glimmer. That is one of those shining scales that Wyatt has shared with the world. They may be hard to see at times, but they are there. Display them boldly for others to see, share them to those who need them, and keep looking for them everywhere. If we all do that, Wyatt’s legacy, his sweet soul, and most importantly, his Love will always be alive.
We all love you, buddy, and miss you more than words could ever describe, but may we all shine on in your honor.
Love you forever, Megatron.
