Jake Paul, a 27-year-old YouTube star who made his boxing debut in 2020, was ready to take on retired professional boxer, Mike Tyson. Paul ended up on top with scores 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73.
If you were one of the many people to sit down and stream the fight, you got lucky if you tuned in early. Before the main event, the Taylor vs. Serrano fight took place. Which, in my opinion, stole the show. This aggressive and bloody brawl left Taylor on top, winning by one point. After the fight the media was flooded with opinions of the viewers.
A major complaint about the fight was Netflix’s streaming services. Lots of viewers experienced buffers so they were forced to tune in via other social media live streams. TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook saved the day for many.
As an avid sports fan, Netflix being the streaming service for the fight came as a surprise. There are so many other services that provide live viewing on a regular basis. Amazon prime for example, streams sporting events regularly with Thursday Night football games.
But it seems Netflix wanted their in on sports before they have another big day of sports. For the holiday season, Netflix is set to stream the NFL Christmas Eve Games, which include the Chiefs vs. Steelers and the Ravens vs. Texans. Netflix will definitely have to come up with a solution to their buffers before they are streaming a main event for many families on Christmas.
On top of the viewing experience, viewers had many questions related to what they just watched. As a result of the fight, was Tyson’s second exit worse than his first? Was Paul’s win elder abuse? Did they really put on a fake fight? These were all major headlines and questions I saw as I scrolled TikTok late Friday night.
Tyson competed between 1985 and 2005, where he held a record of 50 wins and six losses. He is also the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history. But are all of these great achievements really worth the 58-year-olds returning to the ring? I don’t believe so and I think many can agree with me.
Jake Paul is young and seemingly the “better” boxer as portrayed during this fight. To advertise the fight, those on social media saw many clips of Tyson and Paul preparing for the fight. Tyson seemed strong and agile. So what happened when it came to the moment he was training for?
Post-fight, Tyson made a comment that supported the idea that he was the real winner. Does this mean there was compensation offered to Tyson for letting Paul beat him in the ring? There are so many opinions and thoughts on this fight because it is relatively new, but we probably will never have the answers we want. But what one thing we can gather is that even though the fight may not have been interesting, the rumors and opinions surrounding it sure are.
