What qualities and strengths are needed to make a good sports manager? Qualities such as being accountable, proactive, hard-working, and genuine would make one a strong leader and sports manager. Alex Griffith is the perfect example, exhibiting all of these qualities and so many more in his everyday interactions. 

Alex Griffith, a student at HHS, has been the boys golf manager at HHS for the past two years. He has on countless occasions demonstrated many leadership skills. Alex voluntarily picks up the range ball baskets, fixes ball marks on the green, and transports the coolers from the clubhouse to the carts. 

According to Coach Priest, Alex “is always prepared to take on any task that is assigned to him and is always seeking ways to help in any way he can.” He has made a great impact on the team. Because of this,  the coaches and players call him Coach Alex. 

The players wanted to show their support and appreciation for Alex by giving him a set of golf clubs. Alex had always shown a great interest in golf, and sometimes would even research golf club sets at practice. The players weren’t sure how to make this happen though. Because Alex is a leftie, finding clubs is much more difficult. 

That’s when a man, Rich Swift, asked the coaches if anyone would need some clubs that happened to be for a leftie. Immediately, the coaches thought of Alex.

Then, at Tuesday’s practice, the players and coaches presented Alex with his own set of golf clubs. Filled with emotion, Alex happily received the clubs from all of the players and told everyone, “Thank you very much. I hope you all do well at the match on Thursday.” 

Alex Griffith is an example of a true leader and amazing sports manager, one who voluntarily steps up and fulfils tasks without even being asked. He sets an example that many others should follow and should strive to be like. It’s just like Anne Wojcicki once said, the reality is that you the only way change comes is when you lead by example.”
