Tiger Boys Kick off the New Season
The boys soccer team faces change with the new season.
September 27, 2017
This year Herrin High School dropped soccer for both boys and girls, but luckily Carterville picked up the teams and let Herrin athletes co-op with them. The sponsoring school is just one of the changes that have been made regarding the team in the last year. In May, ten out of the 11 starting players graduated, leaving only Carterville’s senior, Will Crosby. This fresh start also brought all new uniforms and a new coach, Chip Lennox. He brings years of experience with coaching club and rec teams to the table. Coach Lennox has already witnessed the team improving with their ball movement and build up play, resulting in more shots on goal. The players also now practice and play on a new field at Cannon Park where a concession stand and set of bathrooms are being constructed. Coach Lennox is excited that the high school field is so close to the youth fields and is surrounded by neighborhoods. He hopes that this will encourage younger players to continue their soccer experience to the high school level and increase community involvement with the team. The construction of the new concession stand, he believes, will bring in more spectators. He hopes to see the team improve their foot skills through the rest of the season, but is proud of the progress they have made thus far.
