This year, Herrin High School will be selecting one student from each grade that exemplifies a specific character trait in and out of the classroom each month. These students are nominated by Herrin High School faculty and staff for their positive role-model behavior in and out of the classroom. 

 

For January, the highlighted trait is Positivity. Positivity is the practice of being or tendency to be optimistic in attitude.

 

Imogen Coop(9)stands proud with her award.

Imogen Coop is a freshman this year. She believes that to have positivity is “the spread of happiness and uplifting friends and people in school ” She is part of the Musicals, Drama Club, FBLA, HOSA, Student Government, as well as a member of the Cross Country and Math Team. After high school, Imogen is planning to go to college out of state somewhere. She participates in Band and Chorus too.

Gabriella George is a sophomore this year. She takes part in Student Government, Rotary, and Educators Rising  After high school Gabriella is planning to go to medical school. She partakes in tennis, softball, and the track team. She believes positivity is “even if the situation isn’t good, always trying to help others feel good.”

Logan Carlton is a junior this year. After high school Logan is planning to go into MLB umpiring. He is in the Gaming Club and FCA. He thinks that positivity is “spreading kindness and making people’s day.”

 

Libby Brandon (12) puts her award on display.

 

 

Libby Brandon is a senior this year. She participates in Student Government, Spanish Club, National Honor Society, Student Chamber, FBLA, HOSA, and Best Buddies  She believes positivity is “seeing a glass half full not half empty .” After high school, Libby is planning on going to SIU and getting a bachelor’s in science by going to PA school.

 

 

This award allows the school to reward outstanding students throughout the school year. At the end of the year, one student from those selected each month will be chosen by the Herrin High School staff to be awarded the True Tiger, the Student of the Year award.

 

February’s trait will be Gratitude. Teachers and staff will be looking to award students who show Gratitude in class and outside, to each other, to themselves, and faculty and community.
