Blazing Trails, a Texas BBQ foodtruck and restaurant, is located at 501 S. Logan St. in West Frankfort. They are open Fridays and Saturdays from 11-7PM, featuring dine-in as well as take-out. Their mac and cheese is amazing, and their prices are reasonable.
Blazing Trails sure knows how to prepare good food. They make their iconic mac and cheese with macaroni noodles, velveeta cheese, and what seems to be bread crumbs. In addition to their unforgettable pasta, they have the best burnt ends. Burnt ends are made from the tip of the brisket, and they are so saucy and tender.
Jared Warren ordered their smoked turkey, smoked bologna, smoked brisket, smoked ham, and smoked mac-n-cheese. In the eyes of Mr. Warren, “the smoked turkey was good, tender and moist. The smoked bologna has a good flavor and is better than regular bologna. My favorite thing to get from there is the mac-n-cheese and the bologna.”
They also serve “Texas Size Nachos” that are made of chips, nacho cheese, baked beans, brisket or pulled pork, sour cream, jalapeno, and a sweet barbeque glaze, which intrigued Sue Warren. Miss Warren stated the dish was “extremely large, piled full of meat, and filled with many different flavors.” Miss Warren now thinks that they are the best nachos her taste buds have ever encountered.
Blazing trails is “bringing real Texas BBQ to Southern Illinois,” and it is one of the best barbeque places around. If you haven’t tried Blazing Trails, I advise heading that way to give them a try. In the words of the manager, “Yee-haw!”
