Herrin High School will be having its first quarter Zero Hero for students when they get back from Fall Break. Zero Hero is for students who have zero unexcused tardies, zero unexcused absences, zero detentions, and zero zeroes. Sophomore Braden Davis said, “The requirements to be a Zero Hero I feel like are pretty good, it gives every student a good opportunity of being a Zero Hero.” The idea of Zero Hero is for students to get to class on time, to come to school, and to respect their teachers and staff.
At the beginning of each quarter, every student has a clear chart of all unexcused absences,
unexcused tardies, and detentions. So this gives a chance for every student to always be a Zero Hero. Students who qualify for Zero Hero in the first quarter: which is August 9th to October 6th, will be having an ice cream sundae party with many toppings during both lunch periods when they get back from Fall Break.
Though some students don’t get excited about being a Zero Hero, many students use Zero Hero as a thing to look forward to throughout the year. Sophomore Sam Joliff says, ”I look forward to Zero Hero because there are great treats and rewards. I enjoy the reward of doing good in class.”
If a student isn’t a Zero Hero in the first quarter, they will have another chance to be in the 2nd quarter. Sergios will be coming to the high school after Christmas break for the students who qualified for Zero Hero in the 2nd quarter. They will be serving students chicken, cheese, and rice with chips and salsa.
Zero Hero is a great incentive, and it is still an exciting celebration for many kids to look forward to all school year.
