Boys golf season is now in full swing. Practicing since the beginning of the summer, these athletes have been putting in lots of effort, and they are giving their all to have a great season.

The boys have been doing great, despite some uncontrollable factors such as heat. A sophomore, Harper Shoemaker, says “We had a heat advisory a couple weeks ago so we sadly had to postpone a few matches, but this helped the team because we had more time to practice, which caused us to become better players.”

Coach Roberts says the main goal for the season is to become better players as the season continues. The boys have two-hour practices every week-day that they don’t have a match. Overall, we have a great team, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement. Shoemaker also stated, “We need to limit the amount of double pars we have.”

Some of the courses are more tough than others. The boys agree that the most difficult course has been Spencer T Olin Golf Course in Alton, IL. This course is challenging because it is long, and it is also an Arnold Palmer course. Only halfway through the season, they have faced some tough competition. Shoemaker noted that, “The most challenging team we have played is Benton. Benton has a very good team, and they go to state almost every year.”

The team has improved tremendously since practices started at the beginning of the summer. Although it is his first year as head coach, Coach Roberts has created a very optimistic group of boys that loves to spend as much time as possible on the green. The team is hoping to finish out the season successfully and they are excited to see what is to come.
