Student Chamber and Awards Article
The Herrin High School Student Chamber is a group of students who do multiple helpful and beneficial things for our community. They meet once a month and try to help our town as much as they can. Our Student Chamber is an avid group of kids that do whatever they can, whenever they can, to help our society.
Some of the things they do for our community consists of service projects such as the Ronald McDonald collection they’re doing, silent auctions to raise money for Clayton Richardson, a career fair with the Herrin Chamber to promote businesses in Herrin, cleaning up Herrin Park in April with a teacher at Herrin High, Mr. Hall, and making Christmas cards for teachers and parents in December. The Student Chamber does all of these things and more every year!
Herrin High School Senior Hayden Taylor won the Young Citizen of the Year Award, which is given to an individual who has shown outstanding leadership and service in the community as well as a commitment to the work of the Chamber. Nominations for this award are decided by the Herrin Chamber of Commerce President.
Stephanie Allen won the Presidents Award, which is given to an individual or group who has shown incredible leadership and involvement in the community, along with doing a tremendous amount of work for the High School. Mrs. Allen went on to say, “I am very honored to receive this award. I’m humbled and honored, I love serving the city of Herrin.”
