Tigers Tackle Cancer
Herrin makes it 2 in a row against West Frankfort.
The Herrin Tigers pulled out a fantastic win against West Frankfort last night in front of the home crowd. Last night was also Community Outreach Night, where the players wore special pink and black jerseys in honor of cancer survivors and those who have sadly passed away, as well as a moment of silence for those lost. The community came together to raise over $1,200 for the Coach Kill Cancer Fund, a great cause that assists cancer patients around Southern Illinois.
The Tigers won the game 16-6, and wasted no time taking the lead early, thanks to 2 touchdown runs from Brady Quaglia , and a field goal from Riley Sims. The crowd was behind the team the whole game, and they responded in return with big defensive plays to keep the West Frankfort offense at bay. This win was a much needed morale boost for the community, as well as a momentum boost for the team heading into the final two weeks of the season.
Overall, this was a fantastic night for Herrin, and the people involved did a great job putting this event together for our town, and the team used the positive energy from the crowd to get past a tough Redbird team. Hopefully they can use this momentum to get past two major obstacles in Harrisburg and Breese Central, and finish the season proud of their performance.
