“Donda” : A Review
Love him or hate him, Kanye West has taken the entire world by storm with the release of his tenth studio album, “Donda”. Within the first full week of sales, the album sold almost 37,000 physical copies, while also earning more than 341 million streams online. While many people grew restless because of the long wait for the release, many people are talking and saying that this could be the album of the year. So, I’m here to give my honest opinion on this already critically acclaimed album to see if it truly lives up to all of the hype.
First off I should say, I am not really a big fan of rap, but I’m willing to listen and give my honest opinion, as I want to see if this music deserves the credit and the attention it has received. I do like the way the title of the album shares the name of his late mother, Donda. I could also tell at certain points he lets his newfound faith shine through in songs like “God Breathed”. I think Kanye does a good job of mixing the old “Kanye Style” while also giving it a lowkey gospel theme.
Another good thing about this album is the amount of features it contains from a lot of popular, award winning artists. Artists such as Jay-Z, Roddy Ricch, Travis Scott, and more helped give this album more character in my opinion.
Overall, I would give this album a 6/10. Obviously, if you like rap music this is for you. This album is decent and has some high points, as well as some low points. My personal favorite on this album is “New Again” as I like the message it contains. Agree with this take? Let us know what you think about Kanye and his new album, DONDA.
