The Boys and Girls Bowling team show off their new hardware.

To end their regular season, the girls bowling team placed second at the Carterville invitational. “We thought it would be easy going into the tournament,” says Renata Russell (12) “but we soon realized that team chemistry and knowing how to work on these lane conditions would soon be to our advantage”. Jenna Wolff (12) took third high series and sixth high game. Sarah Schumacher (12) ended with sixth high series, and Renata Russell (12) ended with tenth high series, ending their regular bowling season.

The girls headed into postseason with high hopes for their outcomes. They practiced every week with even more enthusiasm than when heading into regionals, where they placed fourth. “We had a little bit of a tough ride throughout the day, but we pulled through” states Renatta.

Week two into postseason, the girls worked on shot making and how to bowl on different lane conditions. “Throughout this time, it made our team chemistry and camaraderie better than I have seen in all four years” says Russell.

The girls knew they had each other’s backs going into their sectional tournament. They tried their absolute best and placed eighth out of twelve teams. Jenna Wolff (12) earned her spot in the state tournament by placing sixth out of 98+ individual girls.

The girls finished off their season by following Wolff to State where she represented Herrin High School very well in Rockford, IL and created a great experience for herself and the rest of the team. “Although I didn’t personally make it to state, I can honestly say the 2018-2019 girls bowling season has not only given me the best memories” says Russell “but, also some of the best friends any teammate could ask for”.

The senior girls would like to thank the two sophomores, Julia Mohr and Jaylan Blake for signing up and helping achieve more than they ever thought they could and they have true faith that the team will be in good hands next year.
