The Tigers recently played in the Mid-Winter Classic tournament at West Frankfort . One specific game was played… Herrin against Marion. This game was surrounded by  school spirit and competition as always.

Before the game Bronson Nesler, a senior starter on the team, told Tiger Nation to “get hyped,” and everyone was just that.

Tiger Nation caught wind that an ex-Tiger would be on the bench for the iconic game. One Tiger spoke up and said, “We could win anyway.”

Hearing this made Herrin High fans ready for a showdown of great basketball and hopefully good sportsmanship. Knowing the teams try to one-up each other, senior Bronson Nesler, brought up a great point to break the tension. “We have Colton Towle’s hair.” No Wildcat can compete with that.

Our regular starters were told they would not start this game. This news spread throughout the school and students wanted to know why this was happening and under what circumstances. The student body later found out it was to “wake up” the regular starters.

When asked about how the team would perform Bronson said “We’re gonna win.”

The sad and depressing truth was later that night the Herrin Tigers would lose to the Marion Wildcats, a victory the Herrin Tigers wanted to claim as their own. During the game the student body noticed the Tigers  were missing something. When asked what the Tigers could have done differently, the players responded that if they could go back they would “move the ball more and play better defense.”

Nevertheless, Herrin High School still walked away with pride and… a clean student section. 😉
